Despite missing a few key players who were out due to the flu, the Tigers rolled over the Sparks Cardinals by scoring on three of the first four possessions in the first half and improved their record to 4-1.
The Tigers chewed up big chunks of yards behind the strong running by fullback Jared Rooker and fly halves Trevor Tierney and Reef Gabriel. Tailback Sonny Robison scored on a 13 yard run up the middle behind the strong blocking of linemen Ryan Adams, Austin Pendery, Trey Hargreaves, Thomas Reed, Ryan McIntosh, Austin Reeves, Daniel Hickox and Isaiah Schat. On the Tigers next offensive possession, quarterback Tre Jackson threw a long pass to wide receiver Cody Ball who caught the ball in stride and then raced 43 yards for the score. The Tigers finished their scoring on another pass play when Jackson rolled out and threw a 20-yard pass to tight end Jonathan Jilk who was wide open in the corner of the end zone. The Tiger defense continued their stingy ways by controlling the game from the outset. The Cardinals only first down came midway through the 4th quarter. The Tigers held the Cardinals to less than 20 yards of total offense during the game. Some of the defensive highlights included an interception by safety Kindel Isham, a quarterback sack by middle linebacker Spencer Trivitt, and several tackles for a loss by defensive ends Jilk and Ball and cornerbacks Tierney and Rooker. The defensive line play by Jarod Pieller, Grant Hollar, Connor Mckinnon, Dyllin Lopez, Jared Ellis and Adams was a key to the success of the defense. Leading tackler and linebacker Kaleb Morris and linebacker Kyle Morrison continued to have dominating performances. The Tigers travel to Mira Loma Park in Reno today to take on the Reno Patriots at 8:00 p.m.
