Costumed living history presenters bring the ghosts of prominent pioneers to life during Haunted Weekend on Oct. 22-25. Events are presented by the Douglas County Historical Society in collaboration with the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The kickoff for Haunted Weekend is the Haunted Minden Ghost Walk on Oct. 22. Guided tours depart at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. from the CVIC Hall on Esmeralda Avenue in Minden. Tickets are $5 per person. Advanced tickets are recommended and are available at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville, Minden Town Office and Tumblewind in Minden. Information, 782-2555

Haunted Gardnerville Ghost Walk is 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Cost is $5 per person. The program is a guided walking tour of historic and haunted sites where the ghosts of several Gardnerville pioneers come to life. Hot cider served at the museum.

The Carson City Ghost Walk is Oct. 24 is a tour along the Kit Carson Trail with stops at some of the city's oldest buildings and Victorian homes. Tickets are $15 and advanced purchase is recommended. Information, Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau, 800-NEVADA-1.

Expect to meet ghosts and ghouls at the Haunted Genoa Cemetery Tour on Oct. 24 at the Genoa Cemetery. Guided tours depart every 15 minutes from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Ghosts of Nevada's pioneers will be on hand for the 14th annual guided cemetery tour. Admission is $5 per person, children under 12 are free. Hot cider served compliments of the Douglas County Historical Society. The Genoa Cemetery is at the north end of Genoa on Jacks Valley Road, (Main Street). Look for signs.

The Haunted Genoa Ghost Walk departs from the Genoa Courthouse Museum at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 25. Mormon Station, later known as Genoa, was the first permanent settlement in Nevada and has an exciting history with or without ghosts. The cost is $5 per person.

Things to remember for the Haunted Minden and Gardnerville Ghost Walks and the Genoa Cemetery Tour: bring a flashlight, dress warmly with hat, coat and gloves. Also recommended are warm and comfortable walking shoes to keep you from becoming dead on your feet.
