The Northern 4A Regional Tennis Championships have certainly taken on a distinctive flavor this year.
Of 16 available semifinal spots in the four brackets, 11 will be occupied by players from either Reno or Douglas High School.
The four Douglas semifinalists is believed to be the most the school has ever had.
Top-seeded James TenBroeck beat a pair of players from Truckee Friday to advance to the semifinals, where he was to meet the second seed out of the High Desert League from Reno Saturday.
On the girls' side, two-time defending regional champ Amelia Ritger and freshman Kari TenBroeck advanced to the semifinals on opposite sides of the bracket and the doubles team of Jamie Lundergreen and Linsey Glass advanced to the semis with a three-set win over teammates Sarah and Emily Weaver.
Both doubles teams pulled off wins over Reno's doubles pairs in the quarterfinals.
Play was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Caughlin Club in Reno. The finals are set to begin at noon.
