CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada unemployment was up slightly in September, reaching a new record of 13.3% statewide.
In the Las Vegas area, the jobless rate jumped half a percent, to 13.9 percent.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Monday that the jobless rate was 13.1 percent in the Reno-Sparks area and 12.8 percent in Carson City. Those numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
Nationally, the unemployment rate stood at 9.8 percent in September.
Officials say the deterioration in Nevada's labor market eased a bit in September. But the number of unemployed Nevadans now tops 190,000 and it'll take several months to see whether the recession is easing in the state.
Nevada's statewide unemployment rate a year ago was 7.3 percent.
