INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) - A woman who thinks her pet dog was killed by coyotes at north Lake Tahoe has launched a petition to try to prompt local officials to crack down on what she says is a growing threat from the animals.

Jeannette Whitmore's Yorkie named "Piper" slipped out of her home near Incline Village Golf Course about 6:30 p.m. a week ago and hasn't been seen since. She says the coyotes were out in full force that night and because of the timing, she is pretty sure they got the dog.

Her petition asks "Incline Village to work with golf courses and wildlife experts to take action to reduce the threat of coyote population immediately."
