RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (7-13, 3-4 WAC) volleyball was swept by Idaho (8-11, 4-3 WAC) in three sets by scores of 23-25, 22-25 and 22-25 in a Western Athletic Conference match played at the Virginia Street Gym here tonight. The loss drops the Wolf Pack to 7-13 overall and 3-4 in WAC play while the Vandals improved to 8-11 and 4-3 in conference action.
Nevada led the first set 15-10 but UI put together a 7-2 run to tie the score at 17-17. Down the stretch there were six more ties with the final one being at 23-23. The Vandals took advantage of two Pack miscues to score the final two points of set one to win 25-23. The Pack hit .300 in the first set compared to .297 for UI.
There were six ties and four lead changes in set two before the Vandals prevailed 25-22 to take a 2-0 advantage into the break. Nevada struggled offensively hitting .065 while UI hit .214.
Following the break Idaho was looking to close out the match and did just that winning 25-22 to take the match 3-0. Trailing most of the first part of set three the Vandals tied the score for the eighth and final time at 20-20 then used a 5-2 run to finish the match. The Pack's offensive woes continued as they hit .091 and Idaho .267.
Sophomore Erin Garvey topped the Pack with 10 kills while setter Tatiana Santiago dished out 21 assists. Libero Nicole Link once again led Nevada in digs totaling six tonight.
Sarah Conwell finished with a match-high 17 kills for UI and setter Katie Tribley totaled a match-high 37 assists. Vandal libero Meredith Rice also had a match-high with her eight digs on the night.
UI hit .263 in the match while Nevada hit just .149. The Vandals recorded 11.5 blocks and the Pack just two on the night.
Nevada and Idaho will square off again on Thursday night in Moscow, Idaho at 7:00 p.m.
