If this wasn't going to have a good ending I wouldn't tell this story I just heard, but it is truly amazing and nothing I have heard before. Emily Pfaffenberger was on her way home from dropping off one of her children at school. She was driving along Genoa Lane when a hawk flew into the front grill of her Denali and got stuck. She was sure it was dead. What happened, was it swooping down for a cottontail and didn't see her large white SUV?
Sure that it was dead, she pulled into her parents' house in Genoa to see if she could borrow their car so she wasn't late to work. Her mother Doris Bennett, age 78, said, "No problem, we'll make some calls."
Doris put on a pair of thick leather gloves planning to remove the large bird from the grill. It suddenly came back to life and gripped its large talons onto her gloves. She was very scared but ran into the house to call the Wild Animal Infirmary For Nevada. They gave her the name of Neil Bishop at 790-2314 who promptly drove over to help out this beautiful red-tailed hawk. Neil took the large bird back to their clinic to make sure it was OK before releasing it into the wild again. For help with a bird of prey, call Neil directly.
As this story was told, another lady told me about her daughter who was driving from Elko and a hawk hit her window and she couldn't get it off the hood of her car. She ended up pulling over and wrapping it in a blanket and putting it in the back of her Subaru till she could drop it off at the local sheriff's department.

Bobcat spotting
Two weeks ago I saw a bobcat in Fish Springs. He was heading east paralleling Calle Hermosa just north of the fire station. It was just one o'clock in the afternoon. Watch out for your dogs and cats.
