Mono County Board of Supervisors Chairman William Reid was found dead in his Bridgeport home this morning.

Emergency personnel from the Bridgeport Fire Department, Mono County Paramedics and the Mono County Sheriff's Department responded to Reid's home on a fall report.

Reid represents Mono County District 4, which includes much of the county from Lee Vining north to the Douglas County line.

In a statement issued by board Vice Chairman Byng Hunt, Reid was remembered as a longtime Mono County resident, having moved to Bridgeport in 1973 to serve as the California Highway Patrol Area Commander.

Reid was first elected to a county supervisor in 1980. He served until 1984, then again from 1988-1996, and filled the unexpired term of John Cecil in 2006.

Reid was re-elected in 2008 and selected chairman in January 2009.

He was active in the community and in county government. He served as foreman of the Mono County grand jury, president of the Regional Council of Rural Counties, representative for the Inyo-Mono Area Agency on Aging and many committees.

"His strong commitment to integrity, his personal values and his dedication to his community will be sorely missed," Hunt said.

Reid is survived by his wife, Lyn, three children and his grandchildren.
