For two games Thursday night, the Douglas High volleyball team looked like it could beat any team in the state.
Then top-ranked Manogue came back with a big reminder of how it got to where it is this season.
The Miners overcame a 2-0 deficit riding the strong play of outside hitter Grace Anxo to remain undefeated in league play on the year with an 18-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-11 victory over the Tigers in Minden.
After Douglas rumbled through the first two games in impressive fashion, the Miners scratched out a win in a third game that neither team led by more than four at any point.
Anxo accounted for 15 points over the final three games to lead the Miners, including a back-breaking stretch in the fourth game that swung the momentum fully in Manogue's favor.
The teams fought to a 10-10 tie to start the third game before Manogue called a timeout. Anxo followed with a kill and three aces on the next four points of the game.
Douglas wouldn't lead again in the match.
The Miners jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fifth but Douglas managed to claw back into it to cut the deficit to 11-8.
A service error gave Manogue a key side out, not to mention the momentum, and out-pointed the Tigers 4-3 down the stretch to close things out.
