Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department offers classes for children to seniors. Registration required for all classes. Information at the recreation office, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, or at 782-9828.

Turkey Pottery. Students age 7-12 create a turkey out of clay. Class is 3:30-5:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and 3:30-4 p.m. Nov. 19 at Felix Pottery. Cost of $32 includes all supplies.

Christmas Angel Pottery. Students age 7-12 create an angel out of clay. Class is 3:30-5:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and 3:30-4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Felix Pottery. Cost of $32 includes all supplies.

Jazz/hip hop. Classes for adults include warm-up, stretch, floor techniques and aerobic combination, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursdays or Saturdays, Nov. 5 through Dec. 5, at the Dance Workshop. Cost is $50 per month.

Ballet. Students age 3 and older learn ballet and develop concentration, imagination, coordination, self-discipline and confidence. Classes held at World Gym. Call the recreation department for schedule and cost.

Scrap booking all day crop. Album making with instructor Jackie Gordon, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 21, at Gardnerville Elementary School. Tools available for use. Cost of $10 includes a snack and water.

Ballroom dance. Learn the fundamentals for the fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Class times are 2:45-3:45 p.m. for age 14 and older, 3:45-4:45 p.m. for age 10-13, and 7-8 p.m. for adults, Fridays, Nov. 6 - Dec. 4 at the Dance Workshop in Minden. Cost is $80 per couple.

Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Nov. 2-30 at the recreation annex building. Bring an exercise mat. Cost, $40.

Beginning Tai Chi. Learn this soft martial arts form with warm-ups, exercises and repetitions. The ongoing class is held on Saturdays in various locations. Cost is $5 per month.

Concealed weapon certification. Course meets and exceeds Nevada State concealed weapon certification requirements for handguns. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Nov. 18 and Nov. 20 at the recreation annex and Nov. 21 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost is $90 plus an additional $10 insurance fee.

Dog obedience. Establish good conduct and curb bad habits in a dog obedience class by instructor Guy Yeaman, Nov. 4 - Dec. 30 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Teach your dog to obey the commands heal, sit, stand, stay and recall. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and have a choke chain and fabric or leather lead. Cost is $80.
