Vietnam War hero and native Nevadan Barry Craven, 67, died Oct. 25, 2009, at his home in Johnson Lane.
Born Sept. 14, 1942, in Reno, he was the son of District Judge Thomas Craven. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Navy hospital corpsman tending to Marines in Chu Lai and Da Nang in 1965-66.
After returning to the United States, Craven served with the Nevada Division of Forestry, the Nevada Department of Corrections and the Carson City Sheriff's Department, where he was a forensic scientist until he retired. He received a resolution from the Carson City supervisors commending him on his years of service.
He earned a degree in law enforcement from Western Nevada College.
He married Inger Craven, who preceded him in death on Oct. 15 at her home.
