The Douglas Junior Varsity Girls' Soccer team came onto Keith Roman Field Tuesday evening out for revenge against the South Lake Tahoe Lady Vikings. After suffering a 2-0 loss to the Vikings earlier in the season, the Tigers wanted a win.
The Tigers' midfield was performing their regular drill of keep away for most of the first half. Cara Dunkelman had an unassisted goal in the 18th minute of the first half when the goalie came out and Dunkelman popped it past her to put the Tigers on the board. Halle Niehoff scored on a header when Savannah Roberson took a corner kick in the 38th minute of the first half. The Tigers left the field for halftime elatedly leading the Vikings 2-0. Both teams buckled down for the remainder. Tahoe had renewed energy but the Tiger defense of Jillian Olivera, Roberson, Kelsey Mehrer, Lacey Marsh Allison Chambon and Kelly Tompkins kept the ball away from Tiger goalie Ericka Munoz. The goalie recorded approximately 15 saves before Tahoe scored their first goal in the 20th minute of the second half. Tahoe struck again with only ten minutes left in the game. The Douglas offense of Aspen Abbott, Kelsie Martinez and Tory Pieters continuously tried to put the ball in the Viking net, but their defense had buckled down. The Tiger midfield of Marissa Cowen, Kaitlyn Varble, Kaelin Mejia, Dunkelman and Courtney Grahl-Lawrence were making shots from outside the 18 yard line in a concerted effort to get passed the tie. The game ended in a tie 2-2.
