Reward for Halloween candy

Cash for Candy is Monday through Nov. 6 at Carson Valley Dental Care, 1661 Lucerne St., Minden. Children receive $2 for every pound of Halloween candy brought to the office, with a five-pound limit. Children are encouraged to come to Carson Valley Dental Care between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday after Halloween through Nov. 6. No appointment necessary. Warm clothes and bikes wanted for Project Santa Claus

The 20th annual Project Santa Claus begins with a used winter clothing drive for children and adults on Monday and runs through Dec. 4.

Clean clothes such as sweaters, jackets, coats, sweats, jeans, pants, boots, shoes and winter night wear in wearable condition for infants, children, teens and adults are needed.

Clothing collection boxes will be at Carson Valley Medical Center, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Office, R & T Cleaners, Raley's camera department, M. Scott Properties, World Gym and in Minden Village at Wells Fargo Advisors, 88 Cups Coffee & Tea, Lira's Supermarket, Douglas Disposal and Cold Stone Creamery.

The Carson Valley Kiwanis Club seeks good quality used bicycles to be cleaned and repaired for Project Santa Claus. Bikes may be dropped off at the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District office or Town of Gardnerville Maintenance Yard. Information, Tom Peters, 782-6384.

Tickets on sale for Cowboys

Tickets go on sale Monday for two concerts of Christmas in the Sierra by David John and the Comstock Cowboys, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 19, at the Genoa Town Hall. Cost is $27 for dinner and concert, and $15 for concert only. Dinner of chili, baked potatoes and soft drink at 6:30-7:30 p.m. No-host bar. Museum lecture Nov. 12

Mike Makley speaks about John Mackay, the subject of his book, "John Mackay: Silver King in the Gilded Age," at the Douglas County Historical Society's lecture of the month, 7 p.m. Nov. 12, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. The lecture series is on the second Thursday of the month. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $3, free for historical society members. Information, 782-2555.
