"Hey mom," I said as I clicked my cell phone off. "I got a call to look after Edward.
"Who?" asked my mom.
"You know, my old friend who is very rich and owns that mansion in the middle of nowhere because he loves to be at peace. He's having problems with one of his employees."
"Really who?" asked mom.
"His helper Jason, the ex-Marine."
"What's wrong with Jason?"
"He is complaining about money, saying he is getting less money, while everybody else is getting more money from Edward. In fact, Edward sent the other employees on vacation in Hawaii, but not Jason.
"Why not Jason?" asked mom.
"Edward needed someone to take care of him, Edward just fired him after a bad argument, and Jason threatened Edward that he would kill him."
"Oh Mary, how do you know all this? I don't want you to go."
"Edward's maid Lisa just called on my cell phone. There's no one else to take care of him, I have to go! Hey mom, have you seen my cell phone charger? I lost it two days ago, and my cell phone is probably gonna die sometime tonight. Oh well, bye gotta go."
I grabbed my umbrella and sweater and ran out the door and caught the bus to Edward's mansion.
Finally, the bus made it to my stop. When I stepped down I felt vexed because I saw someone creepy across the street looking towards me. He was wearing a dark brown jacket with a hood on him but he had no umbrella. All I could see were the guy's chin, lips, parts of his pointy nose, and that he was wearing tan colored pants. Once the bus took off I started to walk toward Edward's house but then I heard footsteps and I just knew it was that guy. I felt wary of him, so I walked faster and the man behind me did the same! Then I started to run, and when I got to Edward's stairs I was out of breath. I stopped at the door, but when I turned around there was no one there behind me.
I stood there for a while, until I heard something upstairs in Edwards's room so I closed the door and went up the stairs slowly with pepper spray in my left hand and my right hand gripping the banister tightly. When I got to the door of Edward's room, I opened it slowly and saw Edward on his bed with the TV on and his food on the floor. Edward looked like he was dead so I went to check but he was just asleep. I breathed a sigh of relief, because he looked dead. I just let him sleep.
While I was cleaning up the mess, I was thinking about the good times Edward and I had had. Once we went fishing, and we didn't get one single fish because we had laughed and joked with each other and being loud had scared away all the fish. We had had other good times, too, in the past and he was like a grandpa to me. After cleaning up, I noticed the weather outside got worse. It was thundering and lightening, and it was windy and raining hard.
After awhile, Edward got up, came out to the living room where I was sitting down, reading a "Twilight" book, and he asked where everybody was. He forgets things sometimes. I told him,
"You sent them all on vacation in Hawaii and fired Jason, so I'm here to take care of you now." Then he remembered.
Zap! Suddenly the power went out. I grabbed a flashlight and walked Edward back to his room and put him in bed.
I went down to check the fuse box in the basement. I heard a window break with my acute sense of hearing because I got scared down there. I walked back up and saw that a branch had hit the window. I went back down to the basement and saw that there was nothing wrong with the fuse box, so I went back upstairs.
I got scared as I heard someone talking in Edward's room. I wanted to run, but I refrained from running because I wanted to help Edward. I peeked into Edwards's room, and was vexed to see that the person in the room looked like the one I had seen across the street at the bus stop. Now I could see that it looked like Jason because his hood was off and I recognized his head from the back.
He had the audacity to tell Edward, "Guess whose back old man, the man who took care of you and helped you on everything."
Edward spat out vehemently, "Jason!" It was clear that Edward hated Jason's smiling derision because I could see his angry eyes with my acute vision. I felt nervous and scared. Jason said, "I've always hated you, you old lizard." to Edward then got his knife out.
It was the same knife that an enemy had grabbed from him and used to cut him in a war. The cut went from his left cheek to his forehead, narrowly missing his eye. He had a zigzag scar that was terrifying in the flashes of lightning.
I watched in horror as he ran the knife into Edward's heart and cut it out of his chest. He held it up in a suave gesture and smirked.
He was proud of his sagacity for breaking in and getting revenge. I was petrified, though every bit of my body was screaming inside to run, I felt frozen, with tears racing down my cheeks.
A small scream escaped my lips, and Jason heard me. He looked over in my direction, then turned and started walking towards me. I was so petrified, I couldn't move and Jason grabbed my neck and started choking me. My arms gesticulated wildly and my finger nails scratched Jason on his scar. He let go of me and grabbed his face, cursing. I ran downstairs and Jason leaped after me.
He tripped, falling down the stairs and was knocked out. I wasn't sure if he was pretending, so I didn't check but ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. I scrambled for my cell phone and called 911.
"There's a man here that killed my friend and now he's trying to kill me!" but as I spoke the phone went dead. I didn't know what else to do. There was only one option for me.
I went boldly back to Jason to kill him but when I got to the stairs he wasn't there. I whirled around, but he wasn't behind me, when I turned towards a window, lightning hit and lit up Jason with bright light, I glimpsed his pale face with red eyes and his hideous scar. He jumped at me and I dropped my knife.
As he lunged at me, I kicked his knife out of his hand. He grabbed my foot and made me fall down right by my knife. He dropped his body on top of me and reached his clammy hands around my throat and started choking me again. I got a hold of my knife, and with a tremendous effort I rolled him off of me and stabbed him in the belly. I felt his fingers go limp as his warm blood pooled around us, draining the life out of him.
After struggling with Jason, I was sitting outside on the steps in the rain, crying. Soon the police came after tracing the 911 call I had made earlier. They had their guns out. After things calmed down I told them all what happened. Soon my mom came, she was crying.
While I sat at one ambulance, I watched as paramedics put Edward and Jason's bodies into the other ambulance, and started to think of Edward again. When I got through with talking to the police and being checked by the paramedics, my mom got in the car. I looked at Edward's mansion one last time, and then I got into the car too. I started to think about Jason, and knew that I would have nightmares of him.
I went to sleep in the car and dreamed of Edward. We were having a good time fishing out on the river in Edward's boat. We weren't being loud, it was just quiet.
Suddenly I got a bite and I was excited and Edward started to cheer for me but it was strange. The fish felt too heavy but it came closer and closer to the boat.
I let Edward get it, and when he did, he got dragged off the boat and sunk under the water, and didn't come back up. So I looked down and at first I saw nothing. Then something came out of the water and it was Jason.
He grabbed my neck with his arms and took me down, and then I woke up and saw a tanker truck coming fast at our car. I screamed, and the last thing I saw was an explosion of metal and glass as the truck smashed into our car. Intense heat engulfed me, and our car exploded! As my spirit went up to heaven I watched the scene below.
Two new police officers who had been at the mansion had just finished with what they had to do at the scene and had left to go back into the city, but saw a big fireball and went there fast.
They saw Mary and the policeman said "Oh my god, that's Mary and her mom. That's the girl from the mansion!"
The lady police officer said "Poor Mary, first she saw her friend Edward murdered who's like a grandpa to her. Then she had to kill her attacker Jason and now Mary and her mom are gone, even the truck driver."
She was a brave young lady, what a shame that she's gone.
