The Nevada Day Morning Report

Nevada Day celebrations today kick off at 8 a.m. with the balloon launch. You can get pancake breakfast from either the Builders Association of Western Nevada at Reds Old 395 Grill for $6 or the Republican Ladies will be serving at the Governor's Mansion on Mountain Street. Cost is the same and you never know when you'll get to bid on some left-over ham (something I've actually done).

It's going to be great parade weather, with a high today of 69. Bundle up this morning, though, because the temperature is just a hair above freezing.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. with a fly-by. You can get lunch at the Nugget where Stateline resident Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki will be hosting the annual free chili feed from noon to 2 p.m. Those of us who wear hair on our faces can participate in the beard contest on the Capitol steps just as the parade wraps up at 1 p.m.

Douglas High School's Fighting Tigers Marching Band will be in the parade and then head over to Carson High School to compete in the Governor's Cup.

Douglas County will be celebrating Halloween today. Bring the kids by Trick-or-Treat Safety Street at the CVIC Hall in Minden 3-8 p.m. It's a great place to take the very young trick or treaters. Admission is only $2 a child.

Have a great day, and stay safe.
