Douglas County rescuers had a busy weekend starting 9 p.m. Friday when they received a call to help find a camper who became lost while looking for her dog near Woods Lake.

According to Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the 53-year-old woman left camp at 6 p.m. to find the dog. When the dog returned without her, searchers were contacted.

Douglas County Sheriff's Search & Rescue responded with a canine search team and looked for her unsuccessfully into the night.

They resumed the search in the heavily wooded area around the lake on Saturday morning with reinforcements. The woman was found by one of the Douglas teams at about 1:05 p.m. about three miles from where she'd left the campground.

Halsey said she was disheveled and tired, but otherwise OK.

She was escorted to the command operations center for the Alpine County Search and Rescue Unit, where she was provided aid.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, while searchers were still looking in Alpine County for the missing woman, a couple left the Ridge Tahoe Resort on a hike toward Star Lake.

Douglas dispatchers received a cell phone call at 5:15 p.m. from the man saying the couple was lost.

He told dispatchers they'd walked some way off the trail and become disoriented.

Searchers on foot and riding found the couple just before dusk about a mile east of the base of Galaxy Ski Run.

Halsey said they were wearing light clothing and tennis shoes. They were treated for dehydration, mild hypothermia and muscle cramping.
