The Douglas County Senior Center has reopened after having the carpet replaced and repairs made last week. Senior services were offered on a limited basis and lunch was served at Carson Valley United Methodist Church from Aug. 24-28.

The regular lunch and activity schedule is in effect at the senior center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville, 783-6455.

n The Young at Heart Gift Shop in the lobby of the senior center has reopened after construction. The gift shop specializes in handmade jewelry, gifts, artwork and sculptures. Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

n The Douglas County Senior Center's knitting group seeks donations of yarn. The yarn is used to create lap blankets for homebound seniors and senior retirement homes in Carson Valley. Donations are accepted 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the senior center.

n A senior fitness program offered through Douglas County Senior Services is at Johnson Lane Fitness in Minden. The location for the fitness program has changed from the information given on page 10 of the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Fall 2009 Activity Guide. The correct information is:

Johnson Lane Fitness offers memberships for $17 a month for people 60 years and older as part of the Senior Services Life Options program. An annual $17 enrollment fee is required. Johnson Lane Fitness is family owned and operated, and provides a clean, friendly, non-intimidating workout environment. The facility provides treadmills and elliptical, circuit training and free weights, under the guidance of experienced professional trainers.

Johnson Lane Fitness offers Senior Fit classes by instructor Jenny Passas in who specializes in senior fitness. Hours of operation are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Johnson Lane Fitness is at 2528 Business Parkway, Suite A, in Minden.
