Gardnerville will be where the big news is happening today when town board members hear a design review of the new Walmart, the only public hearing scheduled for the box store. The town board meets at 4:30 p.m. in the town offices on Highway 395.

A woman who allegedly took nearly $5,000 in checks, cash and bank deposits from Allstate Insurance last October is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning to plead guilty to felony attempted theft. Sylvia Simmons, 36, was arrested at the end of July after the theft was discovered. She appeared in East Fork Justice Court last month and waived a preliminary hearing.

Members of the Genoa Town Board will hear a request to abandon part of Carson Street in front of the Funk residence. This will also be the last town meeting before Candy Dance. Town board members meet 7 p.m. in the town hall on Main Street.

Expect sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-80s today in Minden. When the wind picks up this afternoon it will be 5-15 mph. Expect temperatures to cool down again near the weekend.
