The Douglas High girls' golf team's two-year unbeaten streak in Sierra League play came to an end Tuesday, but junior Bethany Wurster was up to her same old tricks.

Wurster shot a 79 to win the first league tournament of the year at Wolf Run Golf Course.

"The win was affecting a lot of her shots, but she gained a little momentum on the par-five No. 15, two-putting for a birdie," Douglas coach Steve Gustafson said. "The par 5s are short at Wolf Run, so long hitters can really take advantage of them."

Douglas only brought two other golfers, Kelsey Endter (128) and Bri Burnside (147), to the tournament, but expects to field a full team next week at Thunder Canyon.

"Kelsey and Bri both gained a lot of experience," Gustafson said. "It was their first high school match and you could tell they were a little nervous before the round. Once they got onto the course, they settled down.

"They both hit some impressive shots, had a few good holes, a few bad ones. The experience is what is most important. I know they'll do better next time."
