Ferret shelter open house
The Ferrets with Soul(e) Rescue Shelter in Gardnerville invites everyone to its fifth annual open house and ferret frolic on Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon-4 p.m.
Ranchos resident Linda Soule operates the nonprofit shelter and hosts an open house each year as a way for people with an interest in ferrets to come together, share stories, laughter and good food, and raise awareness about ferrets and their care.
Dr. Cameron Ross from Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital will be available to answer questions regarding ferrets, and a representative from Performance Foods will be on hand with a bounty of goodies for your pet.
Fundraisers during the event include a variety of games for ferrets and their owners, a live and silent auction, bake sale and a raffle. A variety of ferret items will be available for purchase, including gifts and pet care necessities.
Fellow ferret owners are invited to participate in a gift exchange; bring a wrapped ferret gift valued at no more than $20 and take a different gift home to your pet. Those who don't own a ferret can still bring a gift and make a shelter ferret happy.
The shelter gladly accepts donated items to help keep things running smoothly. Items needed include HE laundry soap, regular bleach, 30-gallon trash bags, double bed comforters and child-sized sleeping bags. Monetary donations help offset operational costs and veterinary bills, and are tax-deductible since the shelter is nonprofit.
Anyone with a love of or interest in ferrets is encouraged to volunteer at the shelter.
The Ferrets with Soul(e) Rescue Shelter is located at 977 Pleasantview Court in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Admission is $1 per person and per ferret. A $1 donation is requested for each ferret frolic game except the tube race, in which you purchase the tube plus $1 and you'll take the tube home. Hamburgers and hot dogs lunches will be available.
Ferret lovers from California are requested to leave their ferrets at home and rent a shelter ferret for the event instead. Cost of $20 covers all games with the exception of the tube race. For more information, contact Linda Soule at 265-6744.
