For the third year, the Douglas County Suicide Prevention Network is hosting Walk for Memory, Walk for Hope, 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Park.
Participants may register in advance at the network's Gardnerville office, 1528 Highway 395, Suite 100, or the day of the walk.
Jodi Wass, who facilitates a suicide survivors' support group, said walkers are invited to bring pictures of loved ones lost to suicide to be displayed during opening ceremonies.
The "Faces of Suicide" quilt also will be on display.
Donation for the walk is $20 which includes a T-shirt.
As of July 31, Douglas County had recorded eight suicides and 16 attempts. That compares to 13 suicides at the same time last year.
By the end of 2008, there were 20 suicides in Douglas County, the highest rate in Nevada per population.
The three-mile walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and proceeds on Highway 395 through Gardnerville, ending back at the park.
