Jaycee Dugard pink ribbon parade today

The Pink Ribbon Parade that will celebrate the reappearance of kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard will now include shuttle-bus service to take participants from one end of the route to the other.

The parade will take place Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library on Rufus Allen Boulevard. It will proceed to the South Tahoe Middle School track.

Participants are encouraged to park in the front lot at the middle school and then take a free shuttle bus to the library.

The BlueGO bus system is providing two buses to shuttle participants between 10 and 11 a.m.

The parade is being organized by Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe. The route is the reverse of that walked on the 10-year anniversary of Dugard's disappearance, said South Lake Tahoe City Councilwoman Kathay Lovell, who is also a Soroptimist member.

Dugard was kidnapped on June 10, 1991, at the age of 11 while she was on the way to her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe. The community received news that she was still alive on Aug. 27.

Dugard was allegedly held captive in the backyard of a home in Antioch, Calif. Phillip and Nancy Garrido have been charged in the abduction case.

Parade participants are asked to wear as much pink as possible. Pink was Dugard's favorite color, and her classmates at Meyers Elementary School started a pink ribbon campaign at the time of her disappearance to show their hopes for her safe return.

At the middle school, pink T-shirts and cupcakes will be sold, with proceeds going to a fund Soroptimist International has set up to help Dugard and her family.

A concert to benefit kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard is being planned for Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Horizon Casino Resort.

The "Building New Bridges" fundraiser is scheduled for 2-8 p.m. inside the Horizon convention center, and is being organized by Kathie Garcia and Fionn Lambert of Tahoe Beach & Ski Club.

Bands including The Garcia Brothers, Big Red Band and Turquoise are slated to perform. A silent auction and raffle are also planned.

"We're happy to be able to be a part of it," Horizon General Manager John Sevilla said Friday.

Tickets are $25 and will be on sale beginning Monday through Ticketmaster, Garcia said. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Proceeds will go to Dugard and her family through a fund set up by Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe at Bank of the West, Garcia said.
