Thanks from the Senior Center

EDITOR:

We are so very grateful to Carson Valley United Methodist Church for their generosity in allowing us to use their facilities. The space was perfect for our needs and we felt very welcomed. Without the help of the church, we would not have been able to offer lunch each day.

I would like to give a special thanks to all of our seniors who endured the difficult times as we closed the Douglas County Senior Center for much needed repairs. I am pleased to inform you that the project of replacing the carpet was successful. I would like to give a special thanks to Commissioner Olson and the local businesses of Douglas County for their generous donations.

As a way to show our gratitude to local businesses during such economic difficulties, the Douglas County Senior Center purchased meals from local vendors. All of the vendors were willing to work creatively with Food Service Supervisor Tammy McComb. They created meal deals to meet the needs of our slim budget. This effort allowed Senior Services staff to give back to our local business in the amount of $4,262.

We appreciate all of the hard work from each of the following businesses: Port of Subs, Scolari's deli, Pizza Barn, Subway, Silver Strike Bowling Alley, and Smith's. We recognize that preparing 150 meals in a hurry, having them ready on time, making sure they are fresh and hot is a big feat, and we are very grateful they made it all happen. So again, thank you all for your hard work.

Finally, I want to send out a special thank-you to all the local seniors who participated in the Community Assessment priority process. It was obvious that our local communities have a large population of seniors willing to work for the future foundation of Douglas County. We appreciate the seniors' input and the many great recommendations made to the Douglas County Commissioners. We hope that one of the top suggestions, to build a community center with a senior services and transportation component, becomes a reality.

Thank you again to everyone, for all your patience and hard work.

Travis K. Lee

Douglas County Senior Services and Transportation Manager
