A memorial service is 1 p.m. Monday at the Mountain Warfare Training Center for Marine Lt. Col. Lester Vernon Swenson, 88, who died Aug. 22, 2009, at Carson Valley Medical Center.

Born May 4, 1921, in Decorah, Iowa, Mr. Swenson served during World War II, where he was a torpedo bomber pilot.

He is survived by his wife Maxine Swenson of Gardnerville; stepson Gary Kridler; sisters Nadine Waurin and Helen Larsen; step-grandson Josh Kridler, and step-great-grandchildren Kaden and James Kridler.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
