The Alpine Fire Safe Council will offer a free defensible space curbside chipping program to residents of Woodfords, Markleeville, Hope Valley and the Woodfords Colony. Funding for this program is provided by a National Fire Plan grant from the USDA Forest Service through the California Fire Safe Council.
Designed to assist area residents with the creation of defensible space around their homes, crews will chip timber slash and brush back onto participant's lots for use as mulch and landscaping material. The program is slated to begin Oct. 12 and continue until finished.
