The Tigers (1-2) and Greenwave (1-2) meet up at 7 p.m. tonight at Keith "Duke" Roman Field in Minden in what will be the Sierra League opener for both teams.

Douglas' two losses came against two of the state's top teams, starting with a 48-21 setback against six-time defending Sunset Region champion Las Vegas 48-21 to open the season. The Tigers lost to defending state champion and current Sierra Nevada Sports Media Poll No. 1 McQueen last week 35-32 on a 21-yard touchdown pass with six seconds left.

The Tigers' win came against Reno in Minden two weeks ago as the defense put up an impressive showing against the Huskies' spread attack in the 20-6 victory.

Fallon, on the other hand, lost 27-10 at home against Reno last week and suffered a 22-13 defeat at North Valleys to open the season.

The Greenwave's lone win came at home against 3A Sparks. Fallon won 40-14.

Fallon gave the Tigers a scare in the league opener for both teams last year. Douglas escaped with a 14-6 win in Churchill County.

Douglas' defense has been solid on the whole against three talented offenses so far. The Tigers have been featuring a new 4-3 look this year, which has amounted to surrendering just 188 yards on the ground over the past two weeks.

The Tigers have also come up with eight takeaways on the year for an average of almost three per game.

Offensively, Douglas' Zack Williams continued to make his way as a varsity quarterback, overcoming a rough first half against McQueen last week to pass for two touchdowns and run for another two in the second half.

He has thrown for 238 yards on the year, which ranks third in the league, and rushed for another 140. Johnny Pollack has run for a league-leading 332 yards and two touchdowns so far this season and Ryen Ake has run for 139.

Danny King and Austin Neddenriep are tied for the team lead in receptions, with 10 apiece. King has 91 yards and Neddenriep has 83.

Fallon will counter with quarterback Andy Fiske, who has passed for 113 yards and run for 105 this season. The Greenwave feature a number of capable ball carriers, leading with Colton Oney (253 yards), Alvin Juris (125) and Joe Floyd (105).

Notes: Fallon has yet to score in the fourth quarter this season. Douglas has won the last 13 matchups between the two teams and leads the overall series 23-22-1. The last time Fallon beat the Tigers was in 1989, when the Greenwave took a 32-8 win in Churchill County.
