What's for sure is that the Douglas High School girls' tennis team, thanks to its 10-8 victory over Carson High in Minden on Tuesday, is one win away from its first-ever Sierra League title (the High Desert and Sierra Leagues were established in 2000).
After that, it's mostly well-calculated speculation.
It's believed that the Tigers are now a win away from clinching the first league or division title in tennis at any level, boys' or girls', in the school's history. The R-C records don't show any team titles for the tennis program, but the newspaper will be researching its archives in the coming months to verify.
The Tigers have rumbled through the first seven matches of the season, racking up seven wins. They have only Fallon (Thursday) and Damonte Ranch (Tuesday) left on the league schedule and perennial powerhouse Reno on Oct. 1.
Dating back to last year, the Tigers now have a 12-match winning streak in league play, also believed to be a school record.
Tuesday's match against the rival Senators was actually the closest any team has come to defeating Douglas this season.
Amelia Ritger and Kari TenBroeck piled up three wins each on the singles side while Cesarina Ceglia, who has been sick all week, won her first round match before losing 6-3 in the second round.
On the doubles' side, sisters Sarah and Emily Weaver continued their solid season with a pair of wins, running their season record to 15-3.
Linsey Glass and Susie White picked up Douglas' final point of the day with a 6-3 win in the second round.

Carson topped Douglas 11-7 despite a strong performance from the Tigers' No. 1 doubles team of Matt Thomas and Matt Williams, who went 3-0 on the day.
"It's great to see our No. 1 doubles team back together," Douglas coach Rod Smith said. "At the beginning of the season, they succeeded on pure athleticism and determination.
"Now, they have added real tennis skills to their matches and it's paying off against solid doubles teams."
Grant Mason and Aaron Allen picked up a pair of wins as a doubles team and Garon Athanacio and Craig Stratton each had a win on the singles side.
