Douglas sophomore Andrew Cobourn won the boys' conference race at South Tahoe Wednesday in 14:43 on the 2.46-mile course for his first conference victory.
Cobourn could never shake Manogue's Nick Kolupaev after taking the outright led 200 meters into the race. Kolupaev finished four seconds behind the winner.
"I was terrified," Cobourn said. "Every time I felt like he was catching up to me on the hill, then I tried to pull away from on the downhills.
"He was really close to me, and I didn't know Manogue had a fast guy. It was really scary."
Douglas lost dual meets to South Tahoe and Manogue on the day, but managed to pick up a win over Manogue.
Douglas' Scotty Lococo was sixth with a time of 15:16. Tanner DeGiovanni took 17th with a time of 16:40, Jeremy Tigh was 18th in 16:41 and Mark Pieters was 20th in 16:56. Other finishers for the Tiger boys were Kory Koskin (18:07), Josh Tigh (19:07) and Nikoli Kallman (19:17).
"We definitely have some really solid guys on our team," Cobourn said. "We're confident we're going to make boys' varsity zone."
Sophomore Sadie Gastelum was the Tigers' top runner on the girls' side, taking 12th with a time of 18:39. The girls' team also lost to both South Tahoe and Manogue while beating Fallon.
Bre Chabot was 17th in 20:11, Kylie Flannagan was 19th in 20:25 and Lydia Ogles was 20th with a time of 20:30.
Amber Emerson finished in 21:02, Audry Moore was 27th in 21:57, Shannon Sturgess was 28th in 22:02 and Becca Neuffer was 30th in 22:08.
