The Antelope Valley Lions Club's annual Deer Hunter Barbecue on Saturday is the perfect time to get out for a delicious deep-pit barbecue meal and a chance to visit with your friends from the Valley. As always, there will be tons of food with all the trimmings for your enjoyment, as well as some awesome raffle prizes to be won. This year, there will be a $1,000 Visa gift card, a hunting rifle with scope, and so many other wonderful items to buy tickets for. The evening will begin 5 p.m., at the Walker Community Center. Come and join us.
Coleville football
It has been a fantastic couple of Saturdays for our high school football team. First, they had a long ride to Owyhee, where they won by a score of 94-8. Then last Saturday, they had a league-opening home game against Virginia City, which they won 84-0. That makes the total scores for their first five games this year at 392 for Coleville and 40 for the opposition. If you haven't seen a game yet, try to go to their next one this Saturday, 1 p.m. at Coleville High School against Wells. I'm sure it will be well worth it.
Fish in the river
On Sept. 16, a lot of gorgeous Alpers trout were released in the West Walker River. I know how great they were, because I got to help with the plant. Today is the final date scheduled for releasing more fish, so be sure and get out soon and try your luck. It should be well worth the effort.
County facilities survey
Most of our residents received a survey from David Nelson Consulting a week or so ago. They are doing beginning information gathering for a grant to evaluate Mono County's facilities that provide services to us. If you didn't return it, they have extended the deadline and you can still send it to them. Otherwise, you can call their toll-free number of (877) 217-0571 to give your information.
