A 64-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos woman told deputies she awoke to a noise early Saturday and discovered a man standing in her kitchen.

She told deputies she screamed and the suspect ran out through the garage door. The woman said she locked up her house, went back to sleep, and notified deputies on Sunday.

She described the suspect as a white male adult with brown hair wearing a dirty white cut-off T-shirt, multicolored pants and dark shoes.

Deputies advised the woman she should have called immediately for a better chance to apprehend the intruder.

She said she didn't notify deputies until the next day because she was embarrassed that she left the garage door partly open for her pets, and believed that was how the man entered her residence. She said nothing appeared missing.
