The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is advising residents and business owners to be ready to evacuate lower Kingsbury Grade because of a one-acre wildland fire fueled by winds gusting at 48 mph.

No homes are located in the immediate area, however the fire appears to be burning northeast, toward the residential area of lower Kingsbury Grade.

Sgt. Jim Halsey said deputies, sheriff's posse and search and rescue volunteers were on the scene of the fire, a half a mile east of the casinos in downtown Stateline to assist with evacuations if necessary.

Units of the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District responded at 10:25 a.m. to a smoke investigation incident in the area east of Upper Lake Parkway Drive in Stateline.

First responders discovered a wildland fire, approximately 1 acre in size, burning in that area.

Firefighters from the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District are working in the area to contain the blaze.

Personnel in the lower Kingsbury area are advised to keep streets open for access by fire apparatus, Halsey said.
