Stateline fire reported under control

An acre wildfire behind MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa in Stateline appears to be contained.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Lorenzo Gigliotti reported at 11: 30 a.m. that the fire appears to be under control. Fire units from both states are responding.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, units of the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District responded to a report of smoke in the area east of Upper Lake Parkway Drive. The area is in the treeline, about a half mile east of the casinos.

First responders discovered a wildland fire, about 1 acre in size, burning in that area. No homes are located in the immediate area, however the fire appears to be burning northeast, toward the residential area of lower Kingsbury Grade, according to sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey. The fire is being driven by prevailing winds.

Firefighters from the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department and the East Fork Fire and Paramedic District are working in the area to contain the blaze. Personnel in the lower Kingsbury area are advised to keep streets open for access by fire apparatus.

Residents and businesses of lower Kingsbury Grade are advised to be prepared to evacuate their residences or businesses if the fire cannot be contained.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, including Search & Rescue and Posse members, have responded to the area to assist with evacuations if needed.

Firefighters are gathering at Montreal and Park; there is a command post in the MontBleu lower parking lot.

High gusty winds are blowing at Lake Tahoe, with gusts of up to 44 mph at Edgewood Golf Course, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service had issued a Red Flag Warning for Tuesday, meaning high winds and low humidity are creating a high risk for wildfire.
