Despite extreme weather conditions, Douglas High junior Bethany Wurster took second with an 87 at the Sierra League tournament at Rosewood Lakes Tuesday.
"It was an extremely tough day on all the players," Douglas coach Steve Gustafson said. "The wind never stopped blowing. It was so strong that balls were rolling off the green.
"Many of the kids could barely stand up. Golf is an outdoor sport and you get all kinds of weather. We've been really fortunate this year weather-wise, but I guess Mother Nature decided to give it to us all yesterday."
Wurster's score was seven strokes behind Manogue's Mackenzi Sowers.
"Even fighting off a small cold, she played well," Gustafson said. "She kept the ball in play most of the day."
Freshman Kelsey Endter shot a new career-low 112.
"In those conditions, she should be proud," Gustafson said. "She was right there with the veteran players."
Bri Burnside also posted a career low of 124, beating her previous low by 12 strokes.
Gustafson said Maddy Gilbert and Maddy Emery each had some great shots as well.
"Rosewood is an accuracy course and we lost a lot of balls," he said. "There isn't a real advantage for long players."
Manogue won the team event with a score of 365. Douglas was sixth at 462, beating Wooster and South Tahoe. Fallon wsa fifth at 459.
Douglas wraps up its league season at home next week at Genoa Lakes.
