Volleyball: Douglas falls in five to No. 2 Manogue

After falling back two games to one in Reno Tuesday night, the Douglas volleyball team rallied to force the match into a fifth set against No. 2 Manogue.


The teams battled back and forth but it was Manogue, powered by an impressive 33 kills from junior outside hitter Grace Anxo, that eventually prevailed, taking a 22-25, 25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 17-15 win over Douglas.


Douglas dropped to 3-2 in league play on the year and 19-4 overall with the loss.


Jourdan Burke and Shannon Dugan had big matches for Douglas, posting 17 and 15 kills respectively. Emily Garcia had a team-leading nine blocks, Jackie Harper had 38 assists and 12 service points, Mia Townsell had 15 digs and Mysta Townsell, Brenna White and Burke each had a pair of aces.


Christine DuPuis added seven kills for the Tigers, Garcia had five, White had four and Keely Latham, Rebecca Antti and Harper each had two.


DuPuis, Dugan, Antti and Harper each had an ace.


Defensively, Burke had five blocks, Dugan, Harper and White each had four, Antti had three, Latham had two and Erin Allison and DuPuis each had one. Mysta Townsell had 13 digs, White and Burke each had six, Dugan had three, Antti had two and Nikki Chavez, Carly McCullough, DuPuis and Latham each had one.


Douglas, ranked No. 4 in the Sierra Nevada Sports Media Polls, hosts

Douglas beat Manogue in three games, 25-12, 22-25, 15-10 Tuesday night in Reno.


Renee Allen had seven assists and six aces, Savannah Wood had five kills, Heidi Schefcik had four kills, Karyn Eck had 13 digs and Cassi Uhart had four digs.


Arel Getty added four aces and two digs in the match as well.
