Usurping power

EDITOR:

Has anyone else become as nauseated watching the way our government is conducting our business as I have? The corruption and arrogance of our representatives have become almost unbelievable. Congressional sleight of hand and legislative legerdemain have replaced diplomacy and due process. The will of the people, and adherence to our Constitution, have been ignored in favor of the usurpation of power and control. Our elected officials are about to destroy our Republic and, having done so, will then absolve themselves of responsibility and look for somewhere else to place blame.

Can someone please explain to me:

How does a student loan program become part of the health care bill?

How can Congress "vote" without voting?

Why do we still have "earmarks?"

Why are "riders" allowed to be attached to bills with which they have no connection?

Why do we have term limits for the president but not for Congress?

By what authority does the government order you to buy something from a private company?

When did bribery become legal?

If you were having trouble paying your bills, what would you think if your spouse suggested that you simply "spend more"?

And lastly, how does anyone think we will ever be able to pay for all the out of control government spending?

The above questions are rhetorical of course. The answer is because that's the way the government wants things to be. And both parties are guilty. Almost every one of the problems facing our country today have been caused by government!

The government that we elected couldn't care less about what we, their employers, want. They will steamroll over us in order to further their agenda, not ours, and in so doing will manage to trash the Constitution as well. And the more they consolidate power in Washington, the more ambitious and dismissive of us they will become. And lest there be any doubt, that is what all this is about - the centralization of power in the federal government. And with each incremental step toward that goal comes a loss of individual freedom.

We hired these people to do a job for us. But we didn't do a very good job in the interview process. We took them at their word and didn't examine their resumes very well. It's time to undo the damage before it is too late. Washington is centralizing power at a breathtaking pace. If you like the direction that things are going just do nothing. If you are concerned, no fearful, of the direction in which our country is headed then "Remember in November."
