The Douglas baseball team split a doubleheader with Manogue over the weekend, dropping its first three-game series since the same weekend last year (vs. Damonte).
The Tigers won the opener 13-10, holding off a late three-run rally from the Miners to close out the win.
The Tigers led throughout, getting three runs in the top of the first and using a five-run sixth to get some needed distance. Douglas added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh before Manogue closed with its late rally.
Shane Fencl went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Ryan Ford went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Kyle Ford was 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Walker Gemmill went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, Cody Begovich and Brett Hartley each drove in a run and Danny King and Scott Rudnick each collected a hit in the game. King's hit was a double.
Beau Battista picked up the win for the Tigers, striking out five and walking two in the game.
Game 2 marked the second game of the series that extended into extra innings (The Miners won 9-4 in Minden in 10 innings on Thursday). Manogue pulled away with a 6-5 win in eight innings to cap the series.
Freshman Davonte German struck out three and walked two while limiting the Tigers to two hits in picking up the win.
Fencl, Kyle Ford and Kameron Van Winkle each hit solo home runs. Ryan Ford and Brett Anderson scored Douglas' remaining runs in the game while Matt Thomas and Anderson accounted for the remaining hits.
Douglas held a 4-0 lead heading into bottom of the third. Manogue cut it to 4-3 in the bottom half and took the lead at 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth.
Douglas tied it up in the top of the seventh before the Miners scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
