Brothel owner subject of monthly museum lecture

Nevada journalist David W. Toll speaks about Mustang Ranch owner Joe Conforte at the Douglas County Historical Society's lecture of the month, 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Admission is $3, or free for historical society members. Information, 782-2555.

Toll said he's the only living newspaperman to begin his career at The Virginia City Chronicle. He worked for The Territorial Enterprise and in 1974 helped revive The Gold Hill News from a 92-year slumber.

His writing has appeared in The San Francisco Chronicle, The Sacramento Bee, and for 30 years in Nevada magazine.
