With less than a day's notice, only a handful of Douglas County Republicans protested at a Minden campaign stop for Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., this morning.

About 60 people attended the stop at 88 Cups during Reid's bus tour.

Reid, who arrived at about 9:45 a.m. and left roughly 45 minutes later, shook hands, answered a few questions and spoke to people at the coffee shop.

He and his entourage climbed back on the bus for their next stop in Carson City.

Douglas County has the largest Republican lead over Democrats in the state.

On Monday, Nevada Republican Party acting chairwoman and Minden resident Sherry Dilley described the tour as "desperate."

"Harry Reid is clearly launching a desperate attempt to convince voters, against all evidence, that his tenure as a U.S. senator has not been a failure for the state of Nevada," she said.

While in Minden, Reid talked about his work to protect Lake Tahoe and the $600,000 payment in lieu of taxes received by Nevada counties to offset loses from notaxable federal lands in their boudaries.
