A 32-year -old Gardnerville man faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine this morning in Douglas County District Court, particularly if he hasn't made a dent in the $60,000 in child support he owes. Jeremi Schortgen, 32, is scheduled to appear before Judge Dave Gamble for sentencing this morning. Schortgen was ordered to support his children in 2002. He owed $60,226.55 as of Oct. 15, 2009.

There are still a few road controls, but they've receded into the high Sierra. Highway 88 is requiring chains or snow tires west of Silver Lake and chains or four-wheel drive west of Carson Pass. Also the state is doing shoulder work along Genoa Lane through April 21.

It's budget season, and Gardnerville is first up with a review of tentative revenue estimates for fiscal year 2011 and the setting of a public hearing to adopt the tentative budget. Gardnerville meets at 4:30 p.m. in the town offices on Highway 395.

Genoans will also be working on the tentative budget when they meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight. They are also talking about submitting an application for a $200,000 grant for the Genoa to Walley's Trail and the Genoa Mail Trail. The Genoa Town Board meets in the town hall offices.

Springlike weather returns for the week with sunny skies and gentle breezes, and a high temperature somewhere in the mid-50s. The temperature will climb 10 degrees on Wednesday and then level off on Thursday.
