Safely dispose of computers, printers, monitors, cell phones, stereos and other electronic waste at the annual Soroptimist International of Carson Valley and ComputerCorps eCycle Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 17, at Nevada State Bank, 1656 Highway 395, Minden.
ComputerCorps recycles computers and electronic equipment to refurbish and return usable equipment to the community through its Every Home a Classroom program, which protects the environment from electronic waste in community landfills and provides families with computers.
Accepted electronic waste includes operable and inoperable computers, printers, monitors, cells phones, toner and ink cartridges, copiers, fax machines, stereos, software and manuals. Televisions and appliances are not accepted.
The eCycle event includes a collection point for the Purple Ribbon Coalition paper drive for the local domestic violence shelter. Paper products needed include toilet paper, paper towels and diapers. The Purple Ribbon Coalition promotes awareness and prevention of domestic violence.
The environment is one of the areas of service for Soroptimist members. The organization also creates programs and raises funds for education, health, economic and social development, human rights and the status of women, with the mission to improve the lives of women and children.
Sponsors of eCycle Day are Soroptimist International of Carson Valley, Nevada State Bank and Law Office of Karen L. Winters.
