The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently donated $4,000 to the Drug Store Project during its regular meeting at MontBleu Resort Hotel.
The Drug Store Project is a comprehensive middle school drug prevention program designed to educate youth about the dangers of substance use and abuse. The program, now in its seventh year, was held on March 30 at Lake Tahoe Community College and was attended by more than 300 sixth graders, mostly from Lake Tahoe Unified School District and St. Theresa School. The Drug Store Project takes students through a series of scenes illustrating the consequences of drug use, with stops that include "The Party," "Juvenile Hall," "The Court Room," "The Emergency Room" and "The Funeral." Program coordinator Lisa Huard describes the Drug Store Project as one of the most coordinated and powerful drug prevention efforts available locally.
