RENO, Nev.- A three-hit afternoon for Ed Rogers was the lone bright spot for Reno, as Fresno defeated the Aces 14-2 Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Rogers, one of only four returning position players on the current Aces roster, had a double and two singles, as well as knocking in one of two Reno runs. But it was not nearly enough, as Fresno jumped ahead with three runs in the first and never looked back.
Billy Buckner (0-1), in competition for the Diamondbacks fifth starter spot, gave up 10 hits and seven earned runs in five innings of work. Billy Spottiswood tossed 2.1 innings of relief in his first day as an Ace in 2010.
For the second-straight afternoon, Fresno got a dominant outing from its starting pitcher, as Joe Martinez (1-0) hurled five shutout innings while holding the Aces to just two hits.
In addition to Rogers' big day at the plate, Jeff Bailey continued his season-long four-game hitting streak with a ninth-inning single.
Reno opens a four-game set with the Salt Lake Bees beginning Monday evening, with RHP Kris Benson (0-0, No ERA) squaring off against Salt Lake RHP Marco Albano (0-0, No ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m., and 3,000 fans will receive a Reno Aces scarf.
