Douglas County commissioners will spend about four hours today and Tuesday trying to bring the budget into balance. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. today and continues 5 p.m. Tuesday. Both sessions are in the Douglas County Administrative Building, 1616 Eighth St.

A 42-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos woman faces sentencing today for her third instance of drunken driving in less than a year. Kathy Olson was arrested Jan. 30 at Tillman and Kimmerling with a blood alcohol content of .30. She was on probation for two prior DUI convictions on March 27, 2009 and May 7, 2009.

There are some road controls in the mountains, but nothing too bad. If you're traveling south of the California border on 395 expect to need chains or snow tires. Otherwise, even Kingsbury's clear, along with Highway 50 from Carson to South Lake.

Scattered snow showers are expected before 11 a.m. then scattered rain and snow showers. It will be mostly cloudy with a high of 51 degrees, though it looks pretty clear out this morning. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent, and where it comes down expect as much as an inch of precipitation.
