A 30-year-old Gardnerville woman, accused of keeping methamphetamine and prescription drugs within reach of a 3-year-old, pleaded guilty Monday to possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.

Karen Jane Mullen told District Judge Michael Gibbons she intended to use "a little bit" of her mother's prescription for Fioricet, a drug used to treat tension headaches.

Gibbons set sentencing for May 24.

Mullen is seeking admission to Western Regional Drug Court.

Her lawyer, Justin Clouser, said Mullen's husband Michael is to enter a plea today to a child neglect charge.

She was arrested at the end of February after deputies responding to a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of Mill Creek Circle found the suspect and her 3-year-old son in the residence.

Mullen was behaving erratically and reportedly told officers she had used methamphetamine the day before and was undergoing withdrawal.

The crime to which she plead guilty on Monday occurred in October.

"I had my mother's prescription in my purse. She takes the same prescription," Mullen said.

She admitted she planned to use her mother's supply. Gibbons agreed to set sentencing after state Parole and Probation completes its investigation.
