Heading into the final stretch of the season, the Douglas High track & field team is beginning to fall into mid-season stride.
The Tigers enjoyed success on both the boys' and girls' sides last week, turning in strong showings at a pair of meets.
The Tiger girls team finished second to regional favorite McQueen at the Washoe Relays on Thursday and turned around to win the Thunder Invitational in Rocklin, Calif., over the weekend.
At Rocklin, the Lady Tigers got a strong performance in the field events across the board.
Sophomore Amanda Brazeau won the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 6 inches, while sophomore Holly Downer took second in the long jump at 15-9.25.
Senior Cesarina Ceglia was third in the triple jump with a leap of 31-4.25 and Downer was fifth in the high jump at 4-8.
Other top field performers for Douglas included Jourdan Burke (6th, triple jump, 30-6.5), Shannon Sturgess (6th, long jump, 14-5 and 9th, high jump, 4-4), Lauren Babbitt (8th, high jump, 4-6), Susie White (9th, triple jump, 29-8.5) and Kelsie Martinez (10th, long jump, 13-9.75).
Junior Bri Burnside took 10th in the discus with a throw of 78-4.
Douglas also faired well in the relays as the team of Alexyss Easlick, Cora Moody, Cara Dunkelman and Susie White took fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 4:20.67 and the team of Brazeau, Easlick, White and Morgan Karnofel took fifth in the 4x100 (52.15).
Dunkelman took second in the 800 with a time of 2:27.28, Karnofel was third in the 400 with a time of 1:05.49 while Aspen Abbott was right behind her in fifth at 1:05.53. Martinez was sixth at 1:09.33.
Brazeau took third in the 100 hurdles with 18.67 seconds with Babbitt taking 10th at 20.00.
Megan Filbin was sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.81, Sadie Gastelum was eighth in the 3,200 at 12:18.24 and Karonfel was 10th in the 100 at 13.54.
On the boys' side, Scotty Lococo continued his strong senior season with a second-place finish in the 1,600, posting a time of 4:39.61. Andrew Cobourn wasn't far behind, taking fifth with a time of 4:44.36.
Johnny Pollack was second in the triple jump at 41-3.5 and fifth in the long jump at 10-8.5. Nick Maestretti took fourth in the pole vault at 13-0, Ryen Ake was fifth in the 300 hurdles (42.81) and ninth in the 110 hurdles (17.44). The Douglas 4x400 relay team took fourth with a time of 3;42.09 and the 4x100 team took ninth at 46.45.
Corbin Zumpft also turned in a leap of 5-6 in the high jump, which was good enough for seventh place.
At the Washoe Relays earlier in the week, the Douglas girls finished second behind McQueen, while coming in ahead of Reno, Galena, Reed, Hug, Wooster and Spanish Springs in order in the team standings.
The Tigers also posted a team win in the unique 4x120 relay with a time of 71.22 while taking second in the long jump, the high jump and the pole vault. They also took third in the distance medley, the shot put and the discus.
In the individual events, Karnofel was third in the 100 (13.04) and Bre Chabot was third in the 1,600 (6:23).
The boys' team was seventh at the relays, winning the pole vault relay (38-6) but not placing in the top three of any of the other events.
Douglas will compete in the Carson Invitational this weekend and host the BIg George Invitational on April 24 before launching into the championship cycle the following week.
