Orthopedic center coming to Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe CA - Barton Health unveils its new Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, designed to treat patients of all activity levels getting them back to what they love doing faster.

The center houses board certified orthopedic surgeons, many affiliated with the US Ski and Snowboard teams.

Barton Health is working with Accelero Health Partners, a consulting firm specializing in the development of orthopedic centers. Barton also recently recruited Michael Lewis, MD, MBA, as the center's new director. Lewis will oversee the Tahoe Center for Orthopedics' business and medical development.

"I see this as a terrific opportunity to work with the center's stakeholders and the community in creating an internationally recognized orthopedic center of excellence here at Lake Tahoe, while providing our patients with a level of unrivaled care and commitment to their health," Lewis said.

A graduate of Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Lewis was the chairman of orthopedics and chief of staff at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He later became a professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University where he also achieved a Master of Business Administration. Lewis was the senior vice president and chief medical officer of Priority Healthcare and most recently was the medical director of Active Implants Corporation. He relocated to South Lake Tahoe from Santa Barbara, Calif.

Working in conjunction with the orthopedic surgeons, the center will incorporate surgery, medical imaging and rehabilitation teams. The team will work on the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.

The Barton Orthopedic Center will also be home to the Lake Tahoe Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship training program for orthopedic surgeons from around the world that has been in existence for more than 20 years.
