The Douglas High softball team opened the Reed Easter Invitational with a pair of wins Friday afternoon in Sparks.
The Lady Tigers beat Elko 7-2 in the tournament opener and beat Alhambra, Calif., 3-1 later in the afternoon.
Against Elko, Katina Morgan went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBIs to lead the team.
Sophomore Chelsea Fent struck out three, walked three and scattered eight hits in picking up the complete-game win.
Douglas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Morgan tripled to score Amanda Caras and Morgan Blomstrom reached on an error, which allowed Morgan to score.
Elko came back for a run in the bottom half of the frame, but Douglas extended its lead with a four-run second.
Nikki Chavez led off with a single and Aaliyah Paxson drove Chavez home with a triple.
Emily Weaver singled to score Paxson and Morgan later hit a home run to bring Weaver around.
Elko added a run in the fifth and Douglas added one more run on a single from Naomi Roberts, bringing Rebecca Trute home in the sixth.
Against Alhambra, freshman lefty Taylor McKinnon pitched a complete-game three-hitter to pick up the win for the Tigers.
She struck out four and walked none, facing just two more batters than the minimum for a complete game (21).
All of the game's scoring was in the first inning as Ahambra brought a run across in the top half.
Douglas answered with three in the bottom of the first as Weaver led off with a single.
She moved to second and third on wild pitches. Caras reached on a fielder's choice with Weaver safe at third. Caras later stole second and Morgan singled to score Weaver.
Caras snuck home when the Alhambra catcher threw to first after a dropped third strike and Morgan later scored on a wild pitch.
Roberts tripled while Brenna White, Roberts and Paxson each collected two hits.
Douglas improved to 13-4 overall on the year with the wins and ran their current win streak to six games. The tournament concluded Saturday. Results are available online.
