A school bus with 56 children and several teachers arrived at the Douglas County Animal Shelter to take a tour and make a donation.
The Scarscelli Elementary School Cheetah Club presented Douglas County Animal Welfare Group, with $618.25 they raised through fundraising activities.
The Cheetah Club is a group of approximately 70 students who are involved in community and school service projects. Their advisors are Katie Hill and Wiebke Willis.
DAWG President Trish Van Der Sluis and volunteer Sue Ruhl spoke to the children about the purpose of DAWG.
They explained how important the donation is and thanked them for thinking of the shelter animals. A short question and answer session was held before the fourth- through sixth-graders toured the shelter to see the dogs and cats available for adoption.
"The generosity of the children from Scarcelli touched our hearts. Their donation will make a difference for so many animals at the shelter," said Van Der Sluis.
