Up to 1,000 Western Nevada school children will be at Fuji Park and the Carson City Fairgrounds on Thursday and Friday for 2010 Capital City Farm Days.
The event is 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and includes presentations on various aspects of ranching and farming in the Great Basin, and environmental issues that affect agriculture.
Students from Douglas, Carson, Lyon, Storey and Washoe county school districts will be treated to numerous presentations and hands-on displays featuring dairy cows, horses, pigs, sheep, composting, a Basque sheep herding camp, riparian waterways, Lahontan Fish Hatchery, and much more. The annual event is sponsored by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
Approximately 32 station talks explain where and how we get our food and clothing. Additionally students learn how agriculture affects our environment and how our environment affects agriculture. The event is free and open to all area children grades K-5.
