Firefighters are battling a blaze in a 4,000-square-foot welding shop located along Highway 88 in southern Carson Valley.

The shop belongs to Mike and Nancy Alley, according to the Douglas County Assessor's Office.

Alley operates A&B Fabrication, a mobile welding shop. Alley confirmed that his shop was on fire.

A plume of black smoke alerted neighbors that the shop was on fire. Multiple 911 calls were made to dispatch at shortly after 1:15 p.m.

Highway 88 and Dressler Road were closed so fire apparatus could maneuver around the blaze.

Firefighters said the shop contained hazardous materials.

Units from Gardnerville, Minden, Genoa, Sheridan, the Ranchos, Fish Springs, Indian Hills, and Johnson Lane responded to the blaze.
